Toronto winners advance to National Finalist Showcase in March for opportunity to compete in the Global Legacy Competition in Sydney, Australia
TORONTO, Nov. 26, 2014 /CNW/ - BACARDÍ® rum, the world's most awarded spirit, is proud to kick off the BACARDI Legacy Cocktail Competition for the first time in Canada, with the second stop in Toronto at Queen St. West hotspot, Wayward Bar. For many contestants, Legacy is viewed on a global scale as a career changing moment. For past winners, their careers have sky rocketed from running a local bar in New York, to owning a three story night club in Shanghai.
The second and third spots secured in Canada were awarded to Toronto residents Alana Nogueda and her cocktail A Night In Santiago as well as Simon Hooper for his creation Behind The Bat.
"The finalists showed so much creativity and individuality", said Trevor Burnett, Bacardi Brand Ambassador. "Alana and Simon's Legacy Cocktail truly embraced the passion behind the brand."
Last night, Alana Nogueda of Hudson Kitchen (Toronto), Simon Hooper of Rush Lane (Toronto), Jay Meyers of Hudson Kitchen (Toronto), Robin Goodfellow of Bar Isabel (Toronto), Oliver Stern, Toronto Temperance Society (Toronto), and Nishan Nepulangoda of Blowfish (Toronto), Tyler Newsome of Whippoorwill (Toronto) and Jake Valianes of Linwood Essentials (Toronto) competed for their chance to represent Canada in the national competition in Toronto, March 2015. From a pool of 35 entrants from across Ontario, eight worthy craftsmen were selected to present their personal creations at Wayward, a New Orleans speakeasy-style cocktail lounge on Queen St. West.
In the coming weeks, Canada will hold regional finals in Halifax, Vancouver and Calgary in order to compile the eight Canadian finalists – dubbed The Bacardi 8. One of those winners will then be selected to present their Legacy Cocktail in the global showcase in Sydney, Australia, in May of 2015.

About BACARDÍ Rums
In 1862, BACARDÍ revolutionized the spirits industry when founder Don Facundo Bacardí Massó began producing his remarkable light-bodied, smooth rum. The unique taste of BACARDÍ inspired cocktail pioneers to invent some of the world's most famous drink recipes including the Mojito, the Daiquirí, the Cuba Libre, the Piña Colada, and the Presidente. BACARDÍ rum has won more than 550 awards for quality and taste making it the world's most awarded rum. Today, BACARDÍ rum is produced in Puerto Rico, following the production legacy set forth by Don Facundo Bacardi Massó – crafted in a five step distillation process, mellowed in American white oak barrels, and filtered five times for unparalleled quality and smoothness.
