The Barbados Tourism Authority Supports the Island's Native Professional Athletes
TORONTO, Feb. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - The Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) is pleased to extend warm Barbadian congratulations to the Baltimore Ravens for winning the Super Bowl XLVII championship game. The island nation is especially thrilled that on this occasion one of their many native professional athletes, Ramon Harewood, took part in leading the team through a victorious season.
With this honor, Harewood joins fellow Barbadian Robert Bailey who also wears the prized Super Bowl Championship ring. Bailey, who played eleven seasons between 1991 and 2001 for six teams including the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins, the Detroit Lions, the Baltimore Ravens and the Rams, has earned two Super Bowl rings throughout his career playing with the Dallas Cowboys in 1995 and the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. In addition to Harewood and Bailey, Barbadians Roger Farmer, Samuel Seale and Elvis Joseph have played for NFL teams such as the New York Jets, Los Angeles Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars respectively.
Seven year veteran of the sport and proud Barbadian Native, Ramon Harewood, cherishes his connection with the Barbadian community from which he came. The Super Bowl champion, Harewood and famed teammates Michael Oher, Ray Rice, Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin and Ladarius Webb plan to head back to Ramon's homeland of Barbados to lead a football training camp for children this Spring, sponsored by The Barbados Tourism Authority in conjunction with Sports Development Institute (SDI), a division of G3 Sports Marketing, LLC. This company strives to provide youth and teens with exciting opportunities for growth and development physically, socially, mentally and emotionally while improving their leadership and communication skills.
"We are thrilled to congratulate both Ramon Harewood & the Baltimore Ravens on their terrific performance at Super Bowl XLVII. We also want to acknowledge the successes of Bailey, Farmer, Seale and Joseph in past championships", says Cheryl Carter - Senior Business Development Manager, Canada of the Barbados Tourism Authority. "We are extremely excited to partner with Ramon and his teammates this Spring with the launch of their on-island football training camp. Who better to deliver encouragement and athlete training to the children of Barbados than the Super Bowl XLVII champions."
