BASF hosts expert discussion panel at International Rapeseed Congress (IRC) in Saskatoon
MISSISSAUGA, ON, July 6, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, at the 14th International Rapeseed Congress (IRC) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, title sponsor BASF Canada hosted an expert discussion panel on innovation to support the future of canola. The panel featured experts from the Canola Council of Canada, BASF senior management and a local grower/agronomist.
The panel met to discuss the challenges and opportunities Canadian growers face as they strive to increase average yield from the current 34 bushels per acre to 52 bushels per acre by 2025 as recommended by the Canola Council of Canada in its recent strategic plan.
"BASF has been supporting farmers in the production of oilseed rape for over 80 years," said panel speaker Ron Kehler, Business Director Crop Protection, BASF Canada. "Advancements in genetics, production practices, and crop protection are all necessary for growers to meet the challenges facing them and to harvest more acres.
"BASF is committed to the continuous development of solutions for canola growers so they can reach the 52 bushels per acre within the next decade," said Kehler. "Solutions to control weeds and facilitate straight cutting such as our HEAT® LQ herbicide and a new multiple mode of action fungicide, PRIAXOR®, with AgCelence® benefits, to control blackleg are already helping growers achieve higher yields."
