Government of Canada to support the Club vacances les Îles community project in the Magdalen Islands
MAGDALEN ISLANDS, QC, May 19, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, announced that $155,000 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-refundable contribution, has been granted to Club vacances les Îles for the restoration and improvement of Bassin aux Huîtres, a riverfront park on the island of Grande-Entrée.
Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. As part of Canada's 150th anniversary celebrations, the Government of Canada is proud to support projects—like the Bassin aux Huîtres project—that contribute to the vibrancy and vitality of all regions of the country.
Club vacances les Îles was established in 1980 as a non-profit organization whose mission is to help visitors experience and discover the Magdalen Islands while also protecting and developing the natural surroundings.
These funds, granted under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), will be used to rehabilitate and improve pedestrian trails leading to Bassin aux Huîtres; improve the lookout point; purchase and install playground equipment, floating docks and platforms; develop boardwalks; and renovate the clubhouse.
CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
