Bay Street's best play SCRABBLE(R) for Literacy
Corporate executives to compete at Frontier College's annual SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge event
TORONTO, Feb. 26 /CNW/ - On March 3, top executives from Bay Street's banks, investment, accounting, and law firms, will compete in the sixth annual SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge, presented by TMX Group.
The Design Exchange in Toronto will be filled with thousands of tiles that spell hundreds of words including L-I-T-E-R-A-C-Y as Bay Street's fiercest wordsmiths are pitted against each other to play SCRABBLE(R) to raise funds for Frontier College. Frontier College is Canada's original literacy organization that provides literacy programs for children, youth and adults across Canada.
"TMX Group is proud to support the SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge and the important work of Frontier College," said Tom Kloet, TMX Group CEO. "With over 40 companies competing at this year's event, we're thrilled that so many organizations are as passionate about improving literacy skills as we are."
On March 3, companies including Barrick Gold, Bell Canada, CIBC, CNW Group, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Scotiabank, Standard & Poor's and TD Financial Group, will battle it out with the help of world-class ranked SCRABBLE(R) champions to see who will take home the coveted 2010 SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge title and the TMX Cup.
"It's fantastic to see these organizations take the initiative to enrich the lives of Canadians," said Sherry Campbell, President, Frontier College. "Literacy is crucial to the success of our economy and low literacy skills are directly linked to poverty, poor health and high unemployment. Frontier College works in communities across Canada by training volunteers to help children, youth and adults with low literacy improve their skills. Each year, more than 2,500 volunteers work with over 16,000 participants in women's shelters, prisons, community centres, inner-city classrooms, Aboriginal communities and on farms across the country to help them achieve their goals and participate more fully in their communities."
The SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge was established in 2005. This unique fundraising event was created for companies to challenge their business colleagues and gather for an evening of fun, while supporting literacy. A tournament based on the word game SCRABBLE(R) is the perfect event to bring awareness to low literacy rates in Canada. Since 2005, the event has raised over $1 million, which spells success for Frontier College and its important mission to improve literacy rates across Canada.
