BC Assembly of First Nations Chiefs-in-Assembly call for General Election of the Regional Chief
SECWEPEMC TERRITORY (KAMLOOPS, BC), March 29, 2017 /CNW/ - On March 27, 2017 at the BC Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN) Special Chiefs Assembly, the Chiefs-in-Assembly voted on a number of Resolutions to guide the organization following the resignation of Shane Gottfriedson as Regional Chief. In January 2017, the BCAFN Board of Directors passed a motion supporting Chief Maureen Chapman as Acting Regional Chief.
On March 27 the Chiefs-in-Assembly resolved to continue to support Acting Regional Chief Chapman in her current role until the next BCAFN General Election for a new Regional Chief on October 12, 2017 during the BCAFN Annual General Meeting. As a result of discussions from the floor, the Chiefs also passed a Resolution to strike a Governance Committee to review all BCAFN policy manuals and the Constitution and by-laws, as the resignation of Shane Gottfriedson highlighted the need in which these documents require improvement.
BCAFN looks forward to the General Election this fall, and thanks the Chiefs-in-Assembly for their patience and continued support.
