bcIMC Announces New Construction on Discovery Place in Winnipeg

New Multi-Tenant Distribution Centre

WINNIPEG, Nov. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC) today announced the construction of a 152,000 square foot distribution building at Discovery Place in Winnipeg.

"We are very excited about developing the Discovery Place Distribution Centre. Having a high cube distribution centre of this scale, strategically located in the northwest quadrant of Winnipeg speaks to the confidence in the growing industrial market in Winnipeg," said Mary Garden, Vice President, Real Estate, bcIMC.

The Discovery Place Distribution Centre is designed to accommodate the needs of the expanding warehouse and distribution sector.  Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2012.

"With a 50'x50' column grid and a 28' clear ceiling height, this facility will be able to maximize efficiencies for tenants who move large amounts of product," according to Shaun Rocan, Vice President Leasing and General Manager, Winnipeg, Bentall Kennedy.  "We've already seen significant interest from users in the market place.  In fact, 40% or 60,000 square feet, is already pre-leased to a distribution tenant on a long-term basis," said Rocan. Bentall Kennedy is the development manager of the project on behalf of bcIMC and will be responsible for the ongoing management and leasing of the property.

Concord Projects Ltd. has been engaged as the design-build contractor and Nejmark Architect will be the architect of record for this project. Located in the Inksbrook Industrial Park, near the cross dock facilities for Sears Logistics and Day & Ross and the residential communities of Garden Grove, Meadows West and the Maples, the building is situated close to the planned expansion of Chief Peguis Trail and the new CentrePort Canada Way.
