BCIT instructors overwhelmingly approve strike vote
BURNABY, BC, April 20, 2015 /CNW/ - The B.C. Government and Service Employees Union announced today that BCGEU vocational instructors at B.C. Institute of Technology (BCIT) have voted 90 per cent in favour of taking strike action if necessary, to gain a fair collective agreement.
Significant issues remaining on the bargaining table include salaries, health and welfare benefits, contact hours and intellectual property rights, among others.
The strike vote provides strong support to the instructors' bargaining committee as the union and employer prepare to enter into mediation, in an effort to reach a negotiated agreement. Mediation is scheduled to begin on May 12 and 13, 2015.
The BCGEU represents 314 vocational instructors at BCIT.
