Bell Aliant invests $7 million to extend FibreOP to 13 additional Annapolis Valley, NS communities Français
KINGSTON, NS, March 27, 2013 /CNW/ - Bell Aliant Inc. (TSX: BA) is expanding its FibreOP™ presence to 13 additional communities in Nova Scotia's picturesque Annapolis Valley. This spring, customers in Cambridge, Windsor West, Falmouth, Centreville, Hantsport, Berwick, Berwick East, Aylesford, Kingston, Kingston West, Middleton, Middleton South, and Bridgetown will have access to world-class fibre-optic technology. This announcement builds on Bell Aliant's existing FibreOP footprint in the Annapolis Valley which includes Windsor, Wolfville, Kentville, Coldbrook and New Minas.
New Minas resident Stephen Wilsack was one of the very first business customers to sign up for FibreOP in 2011 and thinks the expansion is great news for the Valley.
"FibreOP is what the Internet should be like," said Wilsack, whose computer company Innovative Systems, provides large file data transfer services including video production and streaming. "We simply would not be able to do what we do without FibreOP. The speed and response time allow us to work in real time and, from a business perspective, that's a really big deal."
Bell Aliant is investing nearly $7 million to connect 12,500 premises to its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, opening up a world of possibilities for the 13 communities.
"Everywhere we go with FibreOP, we deliver the fastest Internet in the market, and the best TV experience including social TV apps, more than 100 HD channels and the most HD Video On Demand content," said Andre LeBlanc, Vice President, Residential Markets, Bell Aliant. "A fibre-optic network is the building block of great home entertainment and a real asset to business. We are always delighted to hear from customers like Stephen who rely on FibreOP to make things happen."
Besides the Annapolis Valley, Bell Aliant's future-proof network is available across Nova Scotia in Halifax, Truro, New Glasgow, Sydney, Bridgewater, Digby, Antigonish, Yarmouth, Lunenburg and Amherst.
Bell Aliant was the first in Canada to cover an entire city with fibre-to-the-home. By the end of 2013, the company will have extended this state-of-the-art network to approximately 800,000 homes and businesses in its territory. Annapolis Valley customers can pre-register for FibreOP service at www.bellaliant.net/FibreOP, or call 1-866-FIBREOP (1-866-342-7367) to be notified when service is available in their area.
