$2 million investment brings newest standard in TV and Internet technology to northwest New Brunswick
GRAND FALLS, NB, June 20, 2012 /CNW/ - Bell Aliant Inc. (TSX: BA) is investing $2 million to bring its fibre-to-the-home network (FTTH) to 3,000 homes and business in Grand Falls, New Brunswick. Beginning June 22, residents and businesses in Grand Falls can take advantage of the fastest Internet speeds and best TV experience in the market.
"It's no secret FibreOP is helping put New Brunswick on the map," said Richard Keeley, Mayor of Grand Falls. "A FibreOP investment enables businesses in Grand Falls to identify new growth and expansion opportunities and gives residents a great way to connect with people around the globe."
Bell Aliant launched its fibre-to-the-home service in Saint John and Fredericton in July 2009. Since that time, the service has expanded to Moncton, Bathurst, and Miramichi. Builds in Sussex and Woodstock were announced earlier this year.
"Our future-proof FibreOP network is designed to keep pace with consumers' changing needs - including increased demand for bandwidth and premium services," said Andre LeBlanc, VP Residential Services, Bell Aliant. "With FibreOP, customers get an unrivalled Internet and television experience, including the fastest download and upload speeds, and cool new apps like Facebook and Twitter for your TV."
Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) is a broadband network made of glass fibre-optic cable that connects straight to a customers' home or business. FTTH dramatically increases connection speeds and data capability available to users. Bell Aliant's FibreOP network offers Internet download speeds of up to 250 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 30 Mbps - the fastest available in Atlantic Canada today. FibreOP is also the only network that offers Twitter and Facebook apps for TV - so customers can watch, surf and socialize while enjoying the best TV product in the market.
Bell Aliant was the first in Canada to cover an entire city with fibre-to-the-home. By the end of 2012, the company will have invested approximately half a billion dollars to extend fibre-optic technology to approximately 650,000 homes and businesses in its territory. Customers in parts of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland & Labrador enjoy the new product.
FibreOP service is available on June 22, 2012 to customers in both Grand Falls and Woodstock, New Brunswick. Customers can order the service on www.bellaliant.net/FibreOP, or by calling 1-866-FIBREOP (1-866-342-7367).
