TORONTO, April 17, 2017 /CNW/ - Bell Media's Premium Pay TV networks The Movie Network, TMN Encore, Super Écran, and Cinépop are proudly waving the flag for the fourth annual National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) on Wednesday, April 19 with a multi-platform Canadian film lineup curated for patriotic movie lovers. Bell Media is a proud sponsor of National Canadian Film Day.
English-language Pay TV networks The Movie Network and TMN Encore are toasting NCFD 150 with a lineup that includes: Room (9 p.m. ET on TMN), which cleaned up at the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards, earning eight awards including Best Motion Picture, Best Direction (Lenny Abrahamson), Actor in a Leading Role (Jacob Tremblay), Actress in a Leading Role (Brie Larson), and Actress in a Supporting Role (Joan Allen); The Sweet Hereafter (12 noon ET on TMN Encore), Canadian director Atom Egoyan's masterpiece, starring Ian Holm and Sarah Polley, which won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival; and Away From Her (9 p.m. ET, TMN Encore), Sarah Polley's acclaimed adaptation of national treasure Alice Munro's short story, starring Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent. All titles airing on NCFD 150 are also streaming to subscribers on TMN GO in a "Canadian Film Celebration" collection.
French-language Pay TV networks Super Écran and Cinépop's lineup for NCFD 150 includes La Guerre des tuques animée (12:40 p.m. ET on Super Écran) an animated version of André Melançon's classic movie, which took home two Prix du cinéma québécois awards; Maurice Richard (2:50 p.m. ET on Cinépop), a movie about Québec's most famous hockey player of all time, a family man with a passion for his sport; and Guibord s'en va-t-en guerre; (8:45 a.m. ET on Super Écran), which won three Prix du cinéma québécois awards, about a small-time MP whose vote will determine if Canada goes to war.
