TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2017 /CNW/ - In an exclusive deal announced today, Bell Media and VICE Media have partnered to bring the compelling Emmy®-nominated news program VICE NEWS TONIGHT to Canadians this fall. With its unique brand of intrepid investigative journalism and hard-hitting storytelling, VICE NEWS TONIGHT consistently breaks major stories while engaging its audience in an entertaining and thought-provoking way.
The 30-minute news program is set to anchor Much's new fall schedule Monday – Thursday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, beginning October 16. The news program, which currently airs on HBO in the U.S., will also air on HBO Canada Monday – Thursday at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
Complete newscasts are set to stream on Much.com, with stories also available on Much-branded social media channels, ensuring that VICE NEWS TONIGHT is accessible on multiple platforms for its new Canadian fan base.
"There is simply a DNA match between the millennial-focused Much and VICE NEWS TONIGHT, and the revitalized fall schedule across Much-branded platforms offers the perfect home for this ground-breaking news program in Canada," said Mike Cosentino, President, Content and Programming, Bell Media.
"Today's young Canadians are one of the most curious, diverse and globally minded generations ever. They want to see different perspectives that look deep beyond the headlines of the day, and that's what VICE NEWS TONIGHT delivers. This deal with Bell Media is a great opportunity to bring our innovative approach to TV news to a young and engaged audience," said Ryan Archibald, President, VICE Canada.
VICE NEWS TONIGHT recently gained worldwide attention for their eye opening coverage of the Charlottesville riots, which aired as a dedicated 22-minute special before going on to receive more than 50 million views across multiple platforms. VICE NEWS TONIGHT's unique approach to news coverage has also garnered the attention of the media industry, having received six News and Documentary Emmy nominations for four segments released in 2016.
VICE NEWS TONIGHT provides an indispensable source of up-to-date news to viewers who have grown increasingly skeptical of the daily broadcast news format, covering everything from politics, to drug policy, to global conflicts. An immersive alternative to traditional newscasts, the show has no anchors, instead utilizing correspondent-reported field pieces, newsmaker interviews and profiles, animation and graphics, and "from-the-desk" reports.
