TORONTO, July 13, 2017 /CNW/ - Following this morning's announcement by the Television Academy, Bell Media's conventional, specialty, and pay television networks are home to the most acclaimed and celebrated television programming available to Canadians, garnering 234 Emmy nominations. The 69th EMMY® AWARDS airs live Sunday, September 17 at 8 p.m. ET, exclusively on CTV.
Once again, pay television leads the way with 115 nominations for first-run HBO and SHOWTIME programming available on Bell Media's The Movie Network, HBO Canada, and CraveTV services. With 111 nominations, the most of any network for the 17th year in a row, HBO-nominated programming available exclusively on HBO Canada is highlighted by: 22 nominations for the hit sci-fi drama WESTWORLD, the most-watched debut season in HBO Canada history; 17 nominations for the comedy series VEEP; 16 nominations for the critically acclaimed miniseries BIG LITTLE LIES featuring Emmy nominees Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée; and coming to CraveTV tomorrow, July 14, the miniseries THE NIGHT OF, with 13 nominations. Nominated SHOWTIME programming, streaming on CraveTV, includes RAY DONOVAN, PENNY DREADFUL, and MASTERS OF SEX.
THIS IS US, Canada's #1 new series with A18-34 for the 2016/2017 broadcast season, is up for 11 awards for its emotionally charged first season, including Outstanding Drama Series, with Outstanding Lead Actor nods for leads Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia.
On specialty, the first season of the shot-in-Toronto drama series THE HANDMAID'S TALE, Bravo's most-watched program ever and coming to CraveTV on July 28, garnered an impressive 13 nominations, followed by The Comedy Network's FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE (Wednesday nights at 10:30 p.m. ET), which secured seven nominations.
In the coveted Outstanding Variety Talk Series category, Bell Media series lead the pack taking five out of six nominations: FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE, JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER, THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH JAMES CORDEN, and REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER.
