TORONTO, Jan. 14, 2015 /CNW/ - Bell Media congratulates its production partners and internal team members on their 2015 Canadian Screen Awards nominations, as announced yesterday morning. Bell Media received 140 nominations, more than any other broadcaster, with nods for programs produced by more than 30 Canadian independent producers, as well as its news, sports, and in-house production teams. Additionally, 12 films supported by Bell Media received 47 nominations yesterday. Bell Media is the proud principal partner of the Canadian Screen Awards.
Notable Bell Media nominations include Space's acclaimed hit series ORPHAN BLACK, from Temple Street Productions, which received 13 nominations, more than any other television program, as well as Bravo's hit drama 19-2, from Sphère Média Plus/Echo Media, and The Movie Network comedy CALL ME FITZ, from Entertainment One Television International/Amaze Film + Television/Big Motion Pictures, which received 10 nods a piece. Additionally, CTV drama MOTIVE, from Foundation Features/Lark Productions, received eight nominations and TMN series SENSITIVE SKIN, from Rhombus Media/Baby Cow Productions, garnered six. Three of the five nominations for Best Drama Series were Bell Media original productions: 19-2, MOTIVE, and ORPHAN BLACK.
TSN, Canada's Sports Leader, received 14 nominations for its live sports coverage, news, and documentary programming while Michael Landsberg, host of the network's OFF THE RECORD, will be honoured with the Humanitarian Award in recognition of his efforts to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
CTV News programming garnered 13 nominations, including a leading seven for its newsmagazine program W5, while Discovery and Discovery World earned a combined eight nominations for a range of science and factual programming, including in-house production DAILY PLANET, nominated for Best News or Information Series.
Additionally, 12 nominated films received support from Bell Media's The Movie Network and Super Écran, and production funds The Harold Greenberg Fund and Fonds Harold Greenberg, including Xavier Dolan's critically-acclaimed Mommy, which received 13 nominations, more than any other film, and David Cronenberg's Map to the Stars, which garnered 11.
"Congratulations to our extremely talented production partners and internal team members on this well-deserved recognition," said Kevin Crull, President, Bell Media. "These nominations mark another banner year of stellar Canadian programming for both Bell Media and the independent production community."
The Canadian Screen Awards will be handed out during Canadian Screen Week, an all-encompassing celebration of Canadian film, television, and digital media beginning February 23 in Toronto and leading up to a two-hour live broadcast on Sunday, March 1, 2015.
