Space original production ORPHAN BLACK has taken home eight awards thus far, and is up for more categories on Sunday's televised award broadcast. TSN was honoured with seven awards, which include a tie for Best Host in a Sports Program or Series between NHL ON TSN's James Duthie and SPORTSCENTRE's Rod Smith, as well as accolades for its comprehensive coverage of the historic 100th GREY CUP. After decades on the air, MTV's DEGRASSI still resonates with fans and the production community, winning four, and THE AMAZING RACE CANADA also hit its mark winning all three of its categories.
CTV News picked up four awards on Tuesday night, furthering its position as Canada's national, local, and factual news programming leader. CTV News won Best National Newscast for CTV NATIONAL NEWS WITH LISA LAFLAMME, Best News Anchor, Local for CTV News Toronto's Ken Shaw, and Best News Information Segment for W5's "THE SURVIVOR". Additionally, W5 - Canada's longest-running documentary program -- received the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism, recognizing the outstanding contributions of television journalists. This Special Achievement Award marked the first time a television program has been recognized with this award, which traditionally honours the work of individuals. On Wednesday, CTV News received the Outstanding Technical Achievement Award for its innovative iGATEWAY technology, an internally developed HD app that accelerates file transfers from a reporter/producer in the field to the editing suite.
"Congratulations to everyone involved in these award-winning productions," said Kevin Crull, President, Bell Media. "We are so proud of our team and our partners who work so hard every day to deliver excellence. This recognition is important and well-deserved."
