Bennett Jones Announces $1 Million Multi-Year Donation for Multiple Sclerosis Research
TORONTO, Dec. 15, 2016 /CNW/ - Bennett Jones will donate $1,000,000 to Canada's Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation (MSSRF) to help fund research to help treat and end MS. The MSSRF is the largest fund in the world dedicated strictly to MS research and Canada remains at the forefront of research internationally.
"Bennett Jones is proud to support the efforts of Canada's world-class scientists and researchers working towards finding a cure to MS," says Hugh MacKinnon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bennett Jones. "Our success as a firm is measured not only by the success and satisfaction of our clients, but also by our ability to serve the communities in which we work and live. Together with our colleagues, peers, clients and communities – we can make a difference."
Canada has the highest rate of multiple sclerosis in the world, with an estimated 100,000 Canadians living with the disease. Bennett Jones' donation will help fund research into the Canadian MS Progression Cohort, the first and largest study of its kind in Canada designed to identify future therapies which reflect the differing progression of MS in patients. Much of the clinical work will be conducted in Alberta and Ontario. Bennett Jones has also volunteered boardroom space in its various offices to facilitate ongoing collaboration and brainstorming among researchers.
"The MSSRF's mission to end MS is achievable thanks to the support of corporate sponsors whose funding is critical to the success and viability of our research," says Nancy Love, Chair of the MSSRF. "We are grateful to Bennett Jones for their multi-year commitment and eager to put their funding and support towards good use in the fight against MS in Canada and around the world."
Bennett Jones' donation was formally announced by the MSSRF at their "endMS" Gala in December 2016. The Gala followed a two day conference involving the leading MS researchers from across Canada and around the world.
