BestLifeRewarded and Osteoporosis Canada Announce Collaboration to Promote Bone Health Awareness and Disease Prevention Français
TORONTO, Nov. 22, 2012 /CNW/ - BestLifeRewarded® and Osteoporosis Canada are pleased to announce their collaboration to raise awareness about bone health and optimize care for the nearly 2 million Canadians living with osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis Canada, a registered charity, is the only national organization dedicated to serving people who have, or are at risk for, osteoporosis. The organization works to educate, empower and support individuals and communities in the risk reduction and treatment of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures. At least one in three women and one in five men will suffer from an osteoporotic fracture during their lifetime. Each year 30,000 Canadians break their hip. 28% of women and 37% of men who suffer a hip fracture will die within the following year. The overall yearly cost to the Canadian healthcare system of treating osteoporosis and osteoporosis-related fractures was over $2.3 billion as of 2010. The reduced quality of life for those with osteoporosis is enormous. Osteoporosis and the fractures it causes can result in disfigurement, lowered self-esteem, reduction or loss of mobility, and decreased independence.
Dr. Famida Jiwa, President and CEO, Osteoporosis Canada, said, "We are excited about the opportunity to reward Canadians for learning about bone health. We are collaborating with the BestLifeRewarded team to support both patients and consumers with the tools they need to optimize health."
BestLifeRewarded.com is an innovative wellness incentive program providing Canadians with the opportunity to earn rewards for proactively managing their health. It is the first program to address total health and "incentivize" people to take small steps towards healthier living. BestLifeRewarded members collect points for reporting their healthy activities, learning more about their health, participating in assessments and for using health tracking tools. Points earned can be redeemed for 200+ reward items.
"Broken bones from osteoporosis are extremely common, more common than heart attack, stroke and breast cancer combined, so more awareness and education is needed," said Susanne Cookson, co-founder of Cookson James Loyalty Inc. "BestLifeRewarded is pleased to announce new practical information for improved bone health, and giving people points to take personal ownership for their health."
