The Government of Canada supports the National Theatre School of Canada
MONTRÉAL, April 27, 2017 /CNW/ - Marc Miller, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and Member of Parliament (Ville-Marie–Le Sud-Ouest–Île-des-Sœurs), today announced that $1.5 million in funding for the National Theatre School of Canada. Mr. Miller made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
This support, which the Government of Canada is providing through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, will fund the second phase of a project involving renovations and the purchase of specialized equipment that the School began in 2012–13. Once the project is complete, students, instructors and visiting artists at the School will benefit from safe work spaces that better suit their needs.
The Government of Quebec has also invested $1.5 million in the project, and the National Theatre School of Canada has contributed $500,000.

Quick Facts
The National Theatre School of Canada, founded in 1960, is a national training school whose mission is to provide professional training in all theatre disciplines: acting, playwriting, directing, set and costume design, and production—in both French and English.
The School has an enrolment of approximately 170 students annually. Each year, it receives more than 800 applications to its selection process, of which it accepts 55. Over 300 theatre professionals work as instructors.
This project is a continuation of the major project involving renovations and new technical equipment that was funded by the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund in 2012–13. During this major phase of renovations, work will be focused on the Annex, a building linked to the main facility where most of the courses take place for actors, directors, playwrights, and students in production and set and costume design.
The project involves renovating plumbing and washrooms, upgrading electrical and lighting fixtures to standard, adding an elevator/freight elevator, improving the ventilation and air exchange system, replacing windows, and purchasing and installing sound and lighting equipment.
