MONTREAL, Jan. 17, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Guy Berthiaume, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), and Martin Carrier, Vice-President and Studio Head of Warner Bros. Games Montreal (WB Games), were pleased to announce today the beginning of a promising, long-term partnership between the two organizations.
To mark the occasion and as part of its partnership commitments to BAnQ, Warner Bros. Games Montreal has donated an initial collection of 150 titles consisting of movies and television shows on DVD and Blu Ray formats. The collection also features a number of video games, the first to be included within BAnQ's library. In addition, WB Games will periodically deliver its latest releases to BAnQ in order to help build and expand the collections of Quebec's premier cultural institution. Over the coming months, WB Games and BAnQ will explore more ways in which they can collaborate to the benefit of all.
"When we established our permanent Montreal studios at Place Dupuis in the heart of the Quartier Latin, we also started to grow our roots here. Becoming more involved within the community with activities that are aligned with our philosophy is a priority now. To this end, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec is a natural partner for WB Games. We share a common goal: ensuring that culture is accessible to all. We are confident that together, we can have a positive impact in that regard," affirmed Mr. Carrier.
Thanks to Warner Bros. Games Montréal's donation, BAnQ will create a collection of video games, a sector in which it has not been active in the past. "The video game has become an art on its own. It is called the 10th art. The adaptation of books and videos illustrates the synergy that now exists among all of these artistic forms," said Guy Berthiaume, Chair and CEO of BAnQ. "I believe that it is essential for the Grande Bibliothèque to open its shelves up to these works. I'm very pleased that this donation from Warner Brothers Games Montréal has enabled us to open a completely new component in our lending collection."
The initial collection of WB Games titles will be available at BAnQ as of March 2012, following their inclusion in the organization's database.
