Big Tobacco enabler to address the Economic Club today
TORONTO, May 31, 2016 /CNW/ - Garfield Mahood, President of The Campaign for Justice on Tobacco Fraud (CJTF), will attend the address today of Australian tobacco apologist Sinclair Davidson, at the Economic Club of Canada. Gar will be available to the media for comment. The obvious intention of the speech is to deflect attention from the plain packaging theme of the World Health Organization's "World No Tobacco Day". The Economic Club event is scheduled to begin at 11:45 am at the Hilton Toronto, 145 Richmond West.
During Gar's work to reduce tobacco morbidity and mortality, he, and the Non-Smokers' Rights Association he headed, led the campaigns for Canada's world precedent-setting ban on tobacco advertising and for two phases of the country's global precedent-setting tobacco warnings. He and the NSRA initiated the world's first campaign for plain cigarette packaging in 1989.
Gar is an Officer of the Order of Canada. The Campaign for Justice on Tobacco Fraud is a health organization incorporated under the Canada Not-for-profit Incorporations Act.
