Bill McFarland to be honoured as Catalyst Canada Honours Champion
TORONTO, June 27, 2018 /CNW/ - Bill McFarland, CEO and Chief Inclusion Officer at PwC Canada, will be honoured at this year's Catalyst Canada Honours with a Company/Firm Leader Award. This prestigious award recognizes Bill's commitment to inclusion and the advancement of top female talent in the workplace.
"I am truly honoured to be recognized as a Catalyst Canada Honours Champion. Accelerating our progress around diversity and inclusion in the workplace is critical to achieve greater innovation and build a stronger, more progressive society," says Bill McFarland, CEO and Chief Inclusion Officer at PwC Canada. "As business and community leaders, we have the responsibility to lead by demonstrating inclusive behaviours and embracing people with different backgrounds, perspectives, and ideas."
As PwC Canada's CEO and Chief Inclusion Officer, Bill is a passionate advocate for greater leadership accountability, sponsorship of top female talent, and unconscious bias awareness and training. During his tenure as our CEO and Chief Inclusion Officer, Bill has led by example by sponsoring and appointing top female talent to senior leadership positions and important client accounts. He has helped PwC Canada achieve sustainable progress towards a more inclusive workplace by introducing a goal of achieving 50/50 gender parity among new partner admits by 2020. Significant progress has been made towards increasing women partner admissions, which reached 42% in for the year ended June 2018.
Bill is the executive sponsor of PwC Canada's award-winning Women in Leadership (WiL) program, which is designed to support women in their career development. The program also provides coaching and mentoring, helps women build their networks and move through to partnership. More than 200 PwC women have graduated from the WIL program, which now also includes top female talent from other companies. He has also been a champion of the United Nations' global HeForShe movement—which PwC is a founding IMPACT champion—to support gender equality and the advancement of women in the workplace.
"Fostering an inclusive workplace where diverse ideas and talent can thrive is a business imperative at PwC Canada," says Mike Harris, Chair of PwC Canada's Partnership Board. "As the CEO and Chief Inclusion Officer, Bill has made a tremendous contribution to the advancement of women in the workplace—both at PwC and in the market. His actions as a leader have inspired and positively influenced his leaders, teams and clients to embrace diversity, reinforce accountability and understand the impact of unconscious biases. We're proud of Bill's achievements and congratulate him on this well deserved recognition."
Bill was admitted to partnership in 1992 and led the GTA Assurance practice—the firm's largest business unit— from 2002 to 2005.
