/CNW/ - The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is pleased to announce that the provincial government has reappointed William S. Rice, Q.C. as Chair and CEO of the Alberta Securities Commission. His second term will expire
July 16, 2015
.

Rice was first appointed Chair and CEO of the ASC in
July 2005
. Prior to joining the ASC, he was the national managing partner of
Bennett Jones
LLP, having enjoyed a lengthy practice as a securities lawyer. Rice has also had extensive board and chair responsibilities with both public and private companies.
The ASC is the regulatory agency responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted to foster a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and to protect investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators, the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.
