Bill Shaw appointed Global Mining Sector Leader for Golder Associates
Extensive experience in the mining industry helps Golder deliver full service packages
TORONTO, Aug. 12 /CNW/ - Golder Associates Corporation ("Golder") has appointed Dr Bill Shaw as the Global Mining Sector Leader for the corporate group. In his new role, Bill will work to ensure that "Golder Excellence" is being delivered to mining clients around the world by an extensive network of professionals experienced in providing a wide range of services to the mining industry.
Bill has spent his entire career working in the mining industry at the sharp end, focused on building value for clients by defining the tonnes and grade of ore going to the mill, understanding ore loss and dilution, and in training and communicating. Over his more than 30-year career he has worked on iron ore, manganese and gold mines and has specialised in ore reserve estimation, mining grade control, sampling studies and large mining projects. He enjoys working with miners and believes that clear communication about requirements and capabilities is the best basis for ensuring that projects are developed to meet the needs of shareholders, management and other stakeholders. He is currently based in Toronto and has spent considerable time this year connecting with Golder mining teams in North and South America.
Golder is celebrating 50 years as a consulting company and is well known for expertise in geotechnical and environmental engineering. Part of Dr Shaw's new role is to understand all the requirements of a mining company and to focus clients on Golder's significant capacity to deliver in a wide range of disciplines and specialist services. The list is long and includes ore reserve estimation, rock mechanics, mine water services (hydrogeology and hydrology), mine environmental services (from EIA through permitting to closure), mine tailings and waste services (including thickened tailings, paste and backfill), infrastructure services, mine energy and sustainability, and integrated project management.
Golder has other marketservice teams outside the mining industry and puts a lot of effort into transferring information and best practices around the world. Through this cross-industry knowledge, the company helps our clients develop cost-effective solutions that can be designed and built.
