Bing readies for Canada Day with Top 50 Canadiana Search Terms

Canadian Tire tops list, rising nine spots from 2012

TORONTO, June 23, 2014 /CNW/ - Just in time for Canada Day, Bing, the search engine designed to help people make more informed decisions faster, is pleased to announce their Top 50 Canadiana Search Terms list.

The harsh Canadian winter, mixed with dreams of summer BBQ season, are sure to have helped Canadian Tire reach the number one spot, joined in the top 10 by Air Canada, MLS, OLG, Environment Canada, The Bay, TSX, Rob Ford, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Justin Bieber.

Bing's Top 50 Canadiana Search Terms list includes many notable Canadian individuals, events, and organizations, including retailers, sports franchises, celebrities, and, of course, poutine. Interesting findings include:

• Rob Ford outranks Bieber, although both make the top 10
• Canadians are committed to their teams: almost 30 per cent of the top 50 search terms relate to sports
  • All NHL, NBA and MLB teams are included in the top 50, as well as numerous searches related to the Olympics
• Canadians are looking to travel: Air Canada ranked second, while more than 1/5 of searches in the top 50 related to Canadian cities, local tourist destinations, and means to get there
• Housing prices rise, Canadians get strategic: MLS and OLG are ranked third and fourth, adding to speculation that you need to win the lottery to afford a house
