MONTRÉAL, March 27, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Montrealers will be able to take advantage of the long Easter weekend to visit the Biodôme one last time before it closes for renovations. Starting April 3, Space for Life will be closing the doors to this museum to begin major work. The goal of the Migration Project is to renew the Biodôme and its scenography in the largest areas accessible to the public. The new concept focuses on more immersive, interactive and innovative experiences that appeal to the senses and offer visitors another perspective on our ecosystems.
After 26 years of operation, renovations were needed
"The Biodôme is migrating to a bold, ecological, innovative architecture. This transformation is essential in pursuing the renewal, development and leadership of our museum offering at Space for Life and in Montreal. Undertaking major renovations and improvements is a challenge, but when completed, it will be magnificent! Until then, we invite you to come visit the current site one last time this weekend," said Christine Gosselin, Executive Committee Member, Head of Culture, Heritage and Design at the City of Montréal, with great enthusiasm.
Moving the museum into the 21st century
The work will allow visitors to benefit from new views of the ecosystems from high up and to appreciate the renewed, more interactive habitats of a multitude of animals. The new museum experience will also include behind-the-scenes views of the Biodôme and all the systems required to recreate a natural environment indoors. A number of different species will be added to the numerous ones it already houses to enhance the Biodôme's collections.
"After the construction of the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan, the Migration of the Biodôme is the new component of a global strategy aimed especially at offering unique, powerful, significant and coherent experiences in all of Space for Life's museums to bring visitors closer to nature and, ultimately, transform the relationship they have with it in order to prompt changes in behaviour," said Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, Director of Space for Life.
A major attraction for Montréal
Every year, the Biodôme attracts over 800,000 visitors. It is one of the most popular activities among Montreal families and tourists. The time has now come to give it a facelift. See you in late summer 2019 when the Biodôme reopens in all its glory!

Nature dwells within us
In 2018, Espace pour la vie is taking a look at the many ways we dwell on our planet through inspiring ideas and thought-provoking talks and discussions to encourage citizens to become involved. This year at Espace pour la vie, nature dwells within us more than ever!
Espace pour la vie is made up of four attractions on the same site: the Jardin botanique, Biodôme, Insectarium and Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan. These four prestigious municipal institutions form Canada's largest natural science museum complex. Together, they are launching a daring, creative urban movement, urging everyone to rethink the connection between humankind and nature and cultivate a new way of living.
