Bird Construction Inc. Announces Contract Awards Totalling $235 Million

TORONTO, May 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Bird Construction Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a number of construction contracts totalling approximately $235 million. The project locations are in a number of our operating districts within all of Bird's market segments. A description of the projects is as follows:
Bird has been awarded a contract for the Early Works Civil Program at the Voyageur Upgrader Project located north of Fort McMurray, Alberta. Work on the project includes earthworks, concrete foundations and underground piping. The Voyageur Upgrader Project is operated by Suncor Energy and jointly owned by Suncor and Total E&P Canada Ltd. The Early Works Civil Program is expected to start in May 2012 and be completed by spring of 2013.
Vale Inco awarded Bird a unit price contract to construct the residue storage area and dams at their nickel processing plant located in Long Harbour, Newfoundland. The project involves the construction of dams, spillways, diversion channels and the construction and maintenance of access roads to the facility. Construction will commence shortly and is expected to be completed in late 2012.
St. Francis Xavier University awarded Bird a fixed price contract for the construction of two 160 bed four storey residences on the University's campus. The project includes the construction of common lounges, lobbies and laundry facilities. Construction will commence shortly with a scheduled completion date in the spring of 2013.
Manitoba Health awarded Bird a fixed price contract to renovate a facility used by Special Services for Children and Youth in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The project will start immediately and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2013.
Wal-Mart awarded Bird a fixed price contract for the expansion and renovation of an existing store located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Construction is just underway with completion anticipated early in 2013.
Canad Inns awarded Bird a fixed price contract for the construction and renovation of their Metropolitan Theatre facility located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Construction has recently commenced with an expected completion date late this year.
The City of Airdrie, Alberta awarded Bird a fixed price contract for the construction of the Genesis Recreation Centre Phase III including twin hockey rinks, stadium seating, change rooms and ancillary facilities. Construction will commence shortly and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2013.
All the above awards will be added to Bird's backlog in the second quarter of 2012.
