Black Creek Historic Brewery launches 2013 series of Limited Edition Specialty Ales
- Taste unique beers at Ontario's only working historic brewery -
TORONTO, June 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Black Creek Historic Brewery, the only working historic brewery in Ontario, has unveiled a list of unique limited edition specialty ales planned for the 2013 season, available only at the brewery located at Black Creek Pioneer Village (BCPV).
"Specialty beers are based on available seasonal ingredients and have always been popular with our visitors who are looking for unique locally brewed beers to try," said Nick Foglia, Senior Manager, Sales, Visitor & Food Services at Black Creek Pioneer Village.
The brewery recreates the techniques, tools and recipes used by brewers in Ontario in the 1860s. The equipment is made mainly of wood and copper, and the beer ferments the way it did in the old days, in wooden barrels. Beers are brewed using historical recipes, without the use of electricity, any stainless steel tanks or bottling plants. The beers are not carbonated which provides a different taste when compared to the commercially brewed beer of today.
Black Creek Historic Brewery beers are sold in 64oz growlers. They cost $18, which includes the tax and a $4 refundable deposit for the growler. The growlers are available for sale in the Black Creek Historic Brewery and the Half Way House restaurant.
Visitors to BCPV are invited to take part in the Historic Brewery tour. After visiting the brewery and discovering how beer is made, they will enjoy three samples of our historic ales. Participants in the Beer Sampler program will sample beers brewed on-site and learn about drinking (and drinkers!) in the 1860s. These programs are available for an additional fee of $4.50 (tax included).

About Black Creek Historic Brewery
Located in Black Creek Pioneer Village, the Black Creek Historic Brewery is a working recreation of a 19th century brewery, an era when beer was both a popular beverage and a staple food. Using only period equipment and no electricity, the Brewery handcrafts the same ale and porter varieties enjoyed in Ontario before Confederation. Open daily to the public, visitors can chat with the Brewmaster in costume or join guided tours and taste samples drawn from oak barrels. The beer can be enjoyed on the premises at the Black Creek Historic Brewery Restaurant and Pub, or brought home in returnable "growlers." Public events are held throughout the year at the Brewery; the facility is also available for corporate and private functions. Black Creek ales and porters sold off-site at LCBO stores are brewed at a commercial facility under the supervision of the Brewmaster. Black Creek Historic Brewery is a member of the Ontario Craft Brewers and is operated by Black Creek Pioneer Village in partnership with Pioneer Breweries Limited.
