BLG Announces the Launch of The Lin Jun Family Trust
Borden Ladner Gervais Encourages Fellow Canadians to Help the Lin Family
MONTRÉAL, Dec. 23, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) announced the creation of a secure website to collect donations towards The Lin Jun Family Trust in order to support the three members of the Lin family. All donations collected will help them rebuild their lives. In a gesture of solidarity with the members of the Lin family, BLG also encourages donors to send them a message.
After an eleven week trial, the jury has found Luka Rocco Magnotta guilty of first-degree murder of Lin Jun.
The Lin family is relieved by the jury's decision and is grateful for the quality and rigor of the Canadian justice system.
The Lin family wishes to underscore the work and support of everyone involved in the file. The Lin family thanks Justice Guy Cournoyer, crown attorney Louis Bouthillier and the members of the jury for their exceptional work. The Lin family also wishes to thank the volunteer translators who accompanied them throughout the entire judicial process as well as all those who supported the Lin family throughout their presence in Canada: Yvonne Lo, Siqi Zhang, Weinan Wang and Anna Liu, among others.
John Murphy, BLG's Montréal regional managing partner, states that Pro Bono files are at the heart of BLG's culture: "BLG has put into place the necessary measures to assist the Lin family. Throughout Canada, our BLG members have contributed to help the Lin family get through this difficult time. The creation of The Lin Jun Family Trust is but one means put in place to help them."
"BLG's pro bono involvement in this case is consistent with our firm's commitment to giving back. Although we only recently opened an office in China, we have a long relationship with the Chinese community here in Canada and in China", explains Sean Weir, national managing partner and CEO, BLG. "Everyone at the firm is proud of the initiative demonstrated by our partner Daniel Urbas in organizing support for the Lin Jun family".
The BLG lawyers involved in the file are Daniel Urbas, Amélie T. Gouin, Ève Gaudet, Marie-Claude Lassiseraye Mathieu and Jean-Philippe Herbert. André Barette and William Dion-Bernard also contributed to the creation of The Lin Jun Family Trust.
The creation of the secure website to collect donations towards The Lin Jun Family Trust was made possible by the pro bono work of WebCakes, Pivotal Payments, Digital Days and HSBC. BLG and the Lin family thank them sincerely.
