MONTREAL, Feb. 18, 2015 /CNW/ - Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) announces today that its secure website through which donations are collected for The Lin Jun Family Trust has been translated into Chinese, in response to requests from Chinese communities over the world.
"The translation of the website into Chinese allows for better outreach and communication with Chinese communities over the world and facilitates continuous support for the Lin Jun Family," explains Daniel Urbas, the partner who took the initiative of offering the pro bono services of the firm to the family. "Over the course of the last two months, the Trust has collected close to CAD $70.000 in donations."
BLG also wishes to thank the National Bank Trust for having accepted to act for free as corporate trustee to administer the trust property and to protect and contribute to the growth of the donations received from the public.
In the weeks following the verdict, Mr. Lin Diran returned to mainland China, where he continues to mourn his loss with the mother and sister of Lin Jun, and from where the family will follow the developments of the appeal lodged by Magnotta.
"BLG had made a commitment toward the Lin Jun Family to monitor the hearings before the Quebec Court of Appeal and to keep the family members informed as the appeal progressed," says Jean-Philippe Herbert, who was to be present at the Court of Appeal to observe the hearing. "As lawyers for the family, we were pleased to learn that the appeal has been formally abandoned. We will update the family immediately and know they will appreciate this development."
"BLG's pro bono involvement in this case is consistent with the firm's commitment to giving back to the local and international community. The firm has a long-standing relationship with Chinese communities over the world," explains Sean Weir, national managing partner and CEO of BLG.
