BLG associate joins prestigious community of Canada's most iconic women leaders
TORONTO, Nov. 23, 2016 /CNW/ - Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that Amélie T. Gouin, an associate in the firm's Commercial Litigation Group in its Montréal office, has been named a Women's Executive Network (WXN) 2016 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner. Amélie will receive the Future Leaders award recognizing exceptional young women who have distinguished themselves early in their careers, and who show tremendous potential to continue making their mark in the years to come.
Launched in 2003, the Top 100 Awards celebrate the incredible accomplishments of Canada's top executive talent, as well as their organizations and networks. The Top 100 Awards serve to recognize talented leaders in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, and to inspire the current and next generation to push the boundaries of what's possible.
"On behalf of the firm, I would like to congratulate Amélie on receiving this prestigious recognition at such an early stage in her career," said Sean Weir, national managing partner and CEO at BLG. "We knew from the start that Amélie had the leadership abilities and drive to succeed, and her commitment to serve both her clients and her community will undoubtedly lead her to further success in the future."
In her career, Amélie has achieved success for her clients in many significant commercial litigation matters and is admired by her colleagues across the firm for her strong commitment to the team. In the community, Amélie provides countless hours of pro bono services, and serves as the president of the Board of Directors of the Young Chamber of Commerce of Montréal.
"Women are not just leading companies, headlines and new deals, we're doing so in record numbers. In addition to closing the gender gap for participation in post-secondary education and the workforce, we're excelling at the top levels of every sector," says WXN Owner and CEO, Sherri Stevens. "When WXN created Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards, part of the purpose was celebration. By recognizing a community of now 939 remarkable women, we get the opportunity to look back and appreciate the hard work and hurdle jumping it took to get here."
Amélie joins a prestigious community of past award winners, including BLG's The Honourable Louise Arbour, Linda Bertoldi, Cindy Clarke, Lynn McGrade, Noella Milne, and Victoria Prince, as well as Canada's most iconic women trailblazers: Margaret Atwood, best-selling author; Dr. Roberta Bondar, astronaut; Arlene Dickinson, chief executive officer, Venture Communications; Christine Magee, president, Sleep Country Canada; Michaëlle Jean, former Governor General of Canada; Heather Reisman, founder and chief executive officer, Indigo Books & Music; and, Kathleen Taylor, chair of the board, Royal Bank of Canada. Amélie will be honoured during a gala celebration at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on November 24.
