Store on track to open in late summer 2018.
BURLINGTON, ON, Dec. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - IKEA Canada announced today the iconic blue and yellow panelling has been completed on the future IKEA Quebec City store, keeping it on track to open in late summer 2018.
"With the blue and yellow panelling now completed and the building fully enclosed, we are well on the way to bringing to Quebec City more of what people know and love about IKEA," said Annika Lenoir, IKEA Quebec City Store Manager.
In the coming months, work will begin on the transformation of the inside of the building into the destination that will be IKEA Quebec City. The 340,000 square foot store will be roughly the size of five football fields and promises to be a fun day out for the whole family. The store will include the full IKEA range of 9,500 products, inspirational room sets in the Showroom, Market hall, Restaurant and a SMÅLAND supervised play facility for kids. Customers will also be able to take advantage of a suite of services such as home delivery, assembly, planning and returns.
In addition to the approximately 600 jobs created during the course of construction, recruitment of the approximately 200-250 co-workers to join the dedicated team currently working at the Quebec City Pick-up and order point will soon begin.
"We look forward to welcoming many new co-workers in to an engaging environment with a strong focus on people," said Lenoir. "Anyone who has a passion for home furnishings and energy for customer service is encouraged to apply." Jobs will be available in Sales, Restaurant, Interior Design, Human Resources, Logistics, Operations and more.
IKEA Quebec City will be LEED certified. With a particular focus on energy efficiency and waste avoidance, the store will feature a solar wall, electric vehicle charging stations and LED light sources throughout the property. While the store will operate in a sustainable manner, it will also provide inspiration and solutions that will enable customers to live more sustainably with home furnishing solutions that will help them reduce and sort waste, save water and energy and encourage healthier living.
IKEA Quebec City is the second store to be built as part of IKEA Canada's ambition to double its footprint and become more accessible and convenient to the many Canadians. The first store to open as part of this expansion strategy opened in Halifax in September 2017. The retailer also recently announced a new full-size store for London, Ontario, scheduled to open in fall 2019.
