Bank contributes to Canadian Red Cross Emergency Fund
CALGARY, July 3, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - BNP Paribas (Canada) announced today that it will contribute $40,000 this week to the emergency fund operated by the Canadian Red Cross to assist residents of Calgary and surrounding communities stricken by the flooding that has devastated large areas of Southern Alberta in the past few weeks.
"Thousands of residents have suffered significantly and lost their most treasured possessions as a result of this natural disaster. I'm thinking for example of their homes or the memories they've accumulated over a lifetime," said Anne Marie Verstraeten, President and CEO of BNP Paribas (Canada). "We simply can't remain indifferent to this terrible situation. This donation and our other initiatives underscore our solidarity with the province's residents and hopefully, will assist them in their recovery effort."
A tradition where humanity and community come first
This BNP Paribas (Canada) initiative is in keeping with the Bank's long tradition of community support and humanitarian assistance. The Bank recently established the "Rescue and Recover" endowment fund, a program open to donations from BNP Paribas employees worldwide. This program is an expression of solidarity with the victims of humanitarian emergencies - including rapid response to disasters or long-term support for NGOs working to combat the "forgotten" crises around the world. A key feature of the program is that BNP Paribas matches every employee's donation with an equal sum. The funds are then remitted to the three non-profit organizations partnering with the fund: CARE, the French Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders (www.bnpparibas.com/actualites/bnp-paribas-lance-premier-fonds-dotation-associant-ong-entreprise-intervenir-efficacement).
