LONGUEUIL, QC, June 13, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to advise road users that a section of the Bonaventure Expressway will be replaced in 2013. This work is part of the major rehabilitation program of the federal section of the Bonaventure Expressway, which started in 2010 and allows for the annual refurbishment of one of the raised sections of this stretch of the expressway.
This major work will begin the week of June 17 and continue until the winter. The project will be carried out in several phases and result in the replacement of an entire section of the expressway, which is made up of four (4) spans, including the rehabilitation of piers and pier caps.
The phasing of this major project will make it possible to maintain two open lanes in each direction for the majority of the roadwork.
Night and weekend closures, as well as traffic delays (15 minutes or less) will be added during the various phase changes and worksite mobilizations. Notices will be posted to announce each phase and related closures.
The City of Montreal has also started work on the section of the expressway located on the other side of the Lachine Canal. These are two separate rehabilitation projects.
First phase implementation
The first phase of this work will begin the week of June 17. The exact dates of the two closures will be announced soon. Setting up the worksite will require two complete closures of the Bonaventure Expressway in both directions, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Detours will be implemented.
Following the installation of signal systems for the first phase, two lanes will be kept open in each direction. The exit to Ramp 2 (for Pierre-Dupuy Avenue) on the Bonaventure Expressway towards the Champlain Bridge will remain closed during this first phase.
