Bramalea City Centre (BCC) Receives Prestigious Level 4 BOMA BESt Certification
BCC is the First 1 Million+ Square Foot Canadian Enclosed Shopping Centre to Receive Level 4 Certification
BRAMPTON, ON, Jan. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - Bramalea City Centre (BCC), located at 25 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton, is proud to announce its recent BOMA BESt recertification. The Building and Owners Managers Association of Canada (BOMA) has developed a unique national certification program for existing commercial buildings in order to recognize and reward environmental leadership within the commercial real estate industry. BCC recently achieved BOMA BESt Level 4 which means that all of the program's Best Practices in environmental management have been met and that the score on the BOMA BESt assessment was 90 per cent.
"We are thrilled to be recognized for our commitment to the environment," shares Bao Lu, Operations Manager, Morguard Investments Ltd. "As the first one-million+ square foot enclosed shopping centre to achieve level 4 BOMA BESt Certification under Version 2 of the program, we are proud of our environmental leadership and hope our efforts to improve energy efficiencies will serve as an example to others in our industry."
In January 2012, BOMA Canada launched BOMA BESt Version 2, the latest of this unique, national and voluntary program. BOMA BESt Version 2 demands heavier standards of energy and environmental performance in the building assessment surveys to demonstrate the industry's evolving best practices. The program is designed to measure the environmental performance and management of existing buildings, all of which include: offices, shopping centres, open-air retail plazas, light industrial buildings and multi-unit residential buildings. The six key areas of environmental performance and management focus on: energy, water, waste reduction and site, emissions and effluents, indoor environment and environmental management system.
As part of BCC's green initiative, the shopping centre also offers a Free Electric Vehicle Charging Station to electric vehicle owners. Individuals are encouraged to 'charge up' while enjoying the retail offerings of the shopping centre. The charging station can be found on the east side of the parkade, off of Lisa Street.
