Bramalea City Centre Injects "Flower Power" into Brampton
The shopping centre aims to inspire their community to "re-green" the Flower City following ice storm devastation
BRAMPTON, ON, March 5, 2014 /CNW/ - In an effort to give back to the community, Bramalea City Centre (BCC) is hosting a series of special events during the last weekend of March Break that will inspire Bramptonians to clean up their yards and, in turn, their community, in the aftermath of this winter's destructive ice storm. Affectionately dubbed "Flower Power," these events will showcase all things floral—from gardening to fashion—and are perfect for the entire family.
According to the City of Brampton, last December's ice storm had a devastating effect on the city's tree canopy. It is estimated that 50,000 to 60,000 trees throughout Brampton were impacted. City officials are also concerned by the potential for flooding of streams and rivers, given the fallen tree canopy and the excessive amount of snow on the ground.
On Saturday, March 15, Carson Arthur, Cityline's gardening expert and star of HGTV's soon-to-be-launched lifestyle show, Critical Listing, will host two "Ask the Expert" sessions at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the shopping centre's Old Navy Court. During these sessions, Arthur will discuss how spending money on landscaping can maximize a homeowner's return on investment, as well as address audience questions about post-winter gardening. He will also give away Black & Decker tool kits. Following Arthur's appearances, shoppers will be treated to a presentation showcasing Spring's hottest fashion trend—florals.
"Brampton was one of the hardest hit communities when the ice storm barrelled through last December," says Alan J. Gomez, Marketing Director, Bramalea City Centre. "Spring is the season for new beginnings and we think March Break is the perfect time for Bramalea City Centre to give back and do our part to beautify our city."
BCC has partnered with the City of Brampton, whose Horticulture, Parks and Recreation, Forestry and Emergency Preparedness representatives will be on-site that afternoon providing post-ice storm updates and offering shoppers gardening solutions and emergency preparedness strategies.
In addition, the Davey Tree Expert Company, who will be at the mall offering tree-planting tips, is giving away a prize that includes the planting of a large 80mm calibre Autumn Blaze Maple tree in one lucky shopper's yard (retail value: $1,000). Individuals can enter to win by uploading a photo of how the ice storm has affected their property to BCC's Facebook page.
Even kids will find inspiration at the Little Sprouts Craft Table, a children's eco-friendly seed planting station, which will be open from noon to 4:00 p.m.
Finally, top members of BCC's loyalty rewards program, FashioniCITY, will receive a special invitation to pick up a pot of spring bulbs from Guest Services, while supplies last, on March 15.
