Brandon Canexus Workers Approve New Contract
BRANDON, MB, June 17 /CNW Telbec/ - Employees of the Canexus plant here represented by CEP Local 867 approved a new contract late yesterday.
Local 867 represents about 50 workers at Canexus, a plant that produces sodium chlorate for the pulp and paper industry.
"We are pleased that we arrived at a settlement fair to both sides and that allows us to be a cost-effective producer and continue to grow," said President Shaun Zorn. "This deal ensures a strong and harmonious relationship with management."
The four-year deal, which is retroactive to March 1, follows the CEP's National Energy and Chemical Pattern settlement for wages of 2.5%, 3% and 3.25. The fourth year of the deal will match the first year of the next national pattern. The Brandon employees have a new arrangement and clearer process for achieving their 2nd class Power Engineer papers, as well as consistency in benefits through the life of the agreement.
CEP Local 867 represents about 50 workers at the Brandon Canexus plant. CEP represents more than 100,000 working people coast to coast in energy, paper, telecommunications, graphical, and media.
