Brantford Police honoured for school safety
BRANTFORD, ON, Nov. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - Each year, CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) recognizes the valuable contributions to school safety made by a police service.
This year's recipient of CAA's School Safety Patrol Program Police Achievement Award is Brantford Police Service. The annual award is given to the service which lends exceptional support to the CAA School Safety Patrol (SSP) program.
Today, Police Chief Jeff Kellner and Police Constable Elana Emmons are being honoured with the prestigious award at Brantford Police Headquarters.
"Keeping school children safe is one of the most important responsibilities we have as a police service," said Police Chief Jeff Kellner, Brantford Police Service. "I am proud of the accomplishments of Police Constable Elana Emmons. She is dedicated to teaching traffic safety and the School Safety Patrol program."
Police Constable Emmons has served with Brantford Police for 17 years. For the last four years, Constable Emmons has played an integral role in coordinating training, the annual leadership camp and appreciation days for patrollers. This year, Emmons organized the first-ever Mayor's - Brantford Patroller of the Year Awards.
"Police Constable Emmons is a true leader with a strong commitment to the safety of school children," said Leslie Rocha, Community Relations Specialist, CAA SCO. "Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching has earned her the respect and admiration of patrollers, colleagues and the community."
Over 29 elementary schools currently partner with CAA and Brantford Police Service to run the SSP program.
