Brantford Teacher Re-Elected First Vice-President of the Elementary Teachers'

TORONTO, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - Susan Swackhammer, a teacher with the Grand Erie District School Board was today re-elected first vice-president of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO).
Swackhammer, who has served on the provincial executive for six years, the last year as first vice-president, told the more than 500 delegates attending the federation's annual meeting in Toronto that she has a "rounded" view of teacher issues, having been an occasional teacher and occasional teacher local president, classroom teacher, and teacher local president.
Swackhammer stressed that she believes in shared decision making and grassroots representation.
"I believe that standing up for our members in a way that ensures success, while being mindful of relationships, is what our members expect."
Swackhammer has taught all grades from kindergarten to grade 8. She has served as president of the Grand Erie Teacher Local twice and has been involved in ETFO since its inception. She served on the provincial executive from 1998-2000 and again from 2007 to the present. She has been active in equity work and is proud of ETFO's contributions in this area.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 76,000 elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
