TORONTO, July 12, 2017 /CNW/ - Bravo continues to ramp up its slate of exclusive, must-watch dramas with a deal to become the exclusive Canadian production partner for the new, light-hearted detective procedural CARTER, it was announced today. CARTER becomes the newest Original Canadian series for Bravo and the latest partnership between Bell Media and Amaze Film + Television, who is producing the series for Sony Pictures Television Networks' international channels, including AXN. CARTER premieres on Bravo in early 2018 before joining Canada's CraveTV streaming service.
Starring Jerry O'Connell and Sydney Tamiia Poitier, the 10-episode, one-hour drama series began production this week in North Bay, Ont. It was also announced today that Kristian Bruun (ORPHAN BLACK), Sherry Miller (THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, BITTEN), and John Bourgeois (X-MEN, THE KENNEDYS) have joined CARTER in supporting roles.
"Program by program, we continue to build Bravo's high-profile, prime-time slate of exclusive original programs," said Mike Cosentino, Senior Vice-President, Content and Programming, Bell Media. "CARTER's unique voice and cast are a perfect fit for Bravo, and with partners like Amaze Film + Television and Sony Pictures TV Networks, the series is set up for a successful run."
"We are excited to have Bravo as our Canadian broadcaster for CARTER," said Executive Producers Teza Lawrence and Michael Souther. "There isn't a better home for the show!"
CARTER follows actor Harley Carter (O'Connell), a small-town boy who went to Hollywood to make it big and got as big as you could get. For eight years, he's been the star on the #1 series on American network television, "CALL CARTER". After an embarrassing public meltdown, Carter leaves the bright lights of Hollywood and retreats to his small northern Canadian hometown. Unfortunately, everyone there mistakes him for the detective he plays on TV - all to the chagrin of his childhood best friend, Sam St. Clair (Poitier), who is now a successful, but overworked, local detective.
Harley's return complicates both their lives - professionally and romantically. Harley will protest that he's not a real detective, but he can't seem to resist taking on local mysteries. After hours of primetime crime solving, he may be better at cracking cases than he realizes...including the mystery of his own mother's disappearance.
CARTER is written by Garry Campbell (MADTV), developed with writer John Tinker (CHICAGO HOPE), and produced by Amaze Film + Television. Scott Smith (THE MAGICIANS, CALL ME FITZ) directs. Executive producers are Amaze Film + Television's Teza Lawrence and Michael Souther (THE STANLEY DYNAMIC and CALL ME FITZ), and producer is Victoria Hirst (THE STANLEY DYNAMIC).
