Breadbasket 2.0 Summit will explore the future of agriculture policy and crop production in the Canadian Prairies

OTTAWA, June 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Canadian and international experts will gather at TCU Place in Saskatoon June 17-18 to discuss agricultural policy, crop innovation and Canada's potential to feed the world at the Breadbasket 2.0 Summit.

Organized by Canada's Public Policy Forum, Breadbasket 2.0 will convene leaders from federal and provincial governments, industry, the not-for-profit sector and academia to talk about future policy and scientific advances related to crop production in the Prairie provinces.

"With a growing global population, and especially the expanding middle class in China and India, there is a serious need to take a closer look at Canada's food production capacity," said Public Policy Forum President and CEO David Mitchell. "The Prairies were once known as the breadbasket of the world, and they remain central players. But their future preeminence in this area will depend on innovative policy and practice."
