Scientific Evidence to Support Exercise is Medicine®
Physical activity is often linked to managing or controlling risk factors associated with chronic disease; however Dr. Steven N. Blair, a professor at the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, states physical activity is underestimated in the prevention and treatment of numerous chronic health conditions, including diabetes. This session will describe the relative importance of physical inactivity as a risk factor for illness and death and the need for increased attention by physicians and health care providers. Exercise is Medicine® is a global initiative to address how to implement physical activity into clinical practice, and thereby help more patients improve their health.
