Mr. Gelfand, Montréal Exchange Vice-President, is elected to the Board
MONTREAL, June 18, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Brian Z. Gelfand was elected as a member of the IRCM's Board of Directors at the institute's annual general meeting held last week.
"We are very proud to welcome Mr. Gelfand on our Board of Directors," said Louise Lambert-Lagacé, Chairwoman of the Board. "The IRCM will unquestionably benefit from his influence in numerous international networks and community organizations."
Brian Z. Gelfand is Vice-President of Institutional Relations and Market Operations at the Montréal Exchange. Mr. Gelfand previously worked as a consultant, an attorney, and a Special Advisor to the Secretary General at the International Organization of Securities Commissions. He is a member of the Bars of Quebec, New York and Massachusetts.
"I am pleased to be part of the IRCM's Board of Directors," added Mr. Gelfand. "It became clear when I attended the annual assembly that I am joining a very important institution for the city of Montréal, and one where high-performing researchers are making discoveries that will impact the future health of all Canadians."
About Brian Z. Gelfand
Brian Z. Gelfand is a senior executive in the derivatives exchange sector with leadership experience in all aspects of options and futures markets. He is currently Vice-President of Institutional Relations and Market Operations at the Montréal Exchange. Mr. Gelfand is a member of the Bars of Quebec, New York and Massachusetts. He holds a Bachelors of Arts in Economics, a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Bachelor of Common Law from McGill University, as well as an M.A. in international relations from the John Hopkins University. He is an active member of several professional and community organizations, including the Toronto Centre's Securities Program Advisory Board, AIMA Canada's Education and Research Committee, and the Roaster's Foundation.
About the IRCM
Founded in 1967, the IRCM (www.ircm.qc.ca) is currently comprised of 36 research units in various fields, namely immunity and viral infections, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, cancer, neurobiology and development, systems biology and medicinal chemistry. It also houses three specialized research clinics, seven core facilities and three research platforms with state-of-the-art equipment. The IRCM employs 425 people and is an independent institution affiliated with the Université de Montréal. The IRCM clinic is associated to the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM).
