VANCOUVER, March 11, 2013 /CNW/ - The 15th Annual Bright Nights in Stanley Park, a joint event of the BCPFF Burn Fund and the Vancouver Park Board, raised $307,487.25 for the Burn Fund and its programs.
Over 100,000 people attended the event this year. "We are exceptionally pleased with the support of the public, our sponsors and the Vancouver Park Board. Due to this overwhelming support we are able to mark this year as the highest grossing in our event's history. Over 570 fire fighters contributed more than 8,000 hours over the 3 month period of Set-Up, Operations and Tear Down so it is a monumental undertaking of combined efforts to make this event successful," says Ray Boucher, Burn Fund Director and Chair of the Bright Nights Committee. "The funds raised will make a huge difference to burn survivors and their families in our province."
Vancouver Park Board Chair Sarah Blyth presented a cheque for $102,841.61 at the February 25th Park Board meeting to Ray Boucher and Michael Hurley, President of the Burn Fund. The cheque represents the Burn Fund's share of train admission revenue for the popular annual Bright Nights in Stanley Park event that runs every December. Including other donations received by the Burn Fund, this year's event raised a total of $307,487.25 which will greatly benefit the programs that support the Burn Survivors of British Columbia.
The monies raised go directly to the Burn Fund, which provides life saving, life supporting and life enriching services to the people in BC. More than 3,800 professional fire fighters in BC and the Yukon are building the Burn Fund's vision. They dedicate their time and skills to support burn survivors and increase the public's knowledge about fire and burn safety issues through the work the Burn Fund does with its Burn Awareness, Research and Prevention programs.
A special thank you to our many Sponsors, our visitors, and the Vancouver Park Board who all help to make Bright Nights a great family event each and every year!
