Bruce Power presents Toronto's Tribute to recognize Dwight Duncan and Don
MacKinnon for support of kids with physical disabilities
TORONTO, April 27 /CNW/ - The Toronto's Tribute Award Dinner, on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, will recognize Ontario's Minister of Finance, The Honourable Dwight Duncan, and Don MacKinnon, President of the Power Workers' Union. The annual dinner, taking place at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex, is a way for Easter Seals Ontario to recognize leadership in their industries, in their communities and for their continued support of children and youth with physical disabilities.
Bruce Power is the Title Sponsor of Toronto's Tribute Dinner and a strong supporter of Easter Seals Ontario, making a significant financial contribution towards the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure Stimulus Funding project, to build a Multi-Sport Centre at Easter Seals Camp Woodeden, near London. Bruce Power also hosts the annual Spirit of Giving Dinner in Port Elgin, Ontario, which benefits Ontario's Easter Seals kids. This year's Spirit of Giving Dinner takes place on Tuesday, October 26th at the CAW Family Education Centre in Port Elgin.
"As we have experienced first hand, the camps are a magical place for the children Easter Seals supports and we're proud to partner with this worthwhile initiative," said Duncan Hawthorne, Toronto's Tribute Committee Chair and President and CEO of Bruce Power. "Easter Seals kids and their families truly need our support."
Proceeds from the Toronto's Tribute Dinner help Ontario's families of kids with physical disabilities with the cost of expensive mobility equipment, communication devices and fully accessible summer camp. Easter Seals owns and operates two fully accessible camp properties and is recognized as an industry leader in providing specialized recreation programs for kids with physical disabilities.
"Our ability to serve children and youth with physical disabilities, for the last 88 years, is largely dependent on supporters like The Honourable Dwight Duncan and Don MacKinnon, and on the generosity of organizations like Bruce Power," said Rob Berkovitz, Chair of the Board for Easter Seals Ontario. "This support helps kids and families in such a meaningful way."
Since 2003, the Toronto's Tribute has raised over $ 2.7 million, with all proceeds going directly to help families of children with physical disabilities across Ontario. Past honorees include: Frank McKenna, Deputy Chair of TD Bank Financial Group and Patrick Dillon, Business Manager and Secretary Treasurer of the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario (2009); Roger Abbott and Don Ferguson of CBC's Royal Canadian Air Farce (2008); Murilo Ferreira, President and CEO of Vale Inco Ltd. and Duncan Hawthorne, President and CEO, Bruce Power (2007); The Right Honourable Paul Martin (2006); Joseph J.
