Building and development industry raises $50,000 for low-income families

GREATER TORONTO, ON, Sept. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Unfazed by the cold autumn weather, members of the Building Industry and Land Development Association took part in a collective cycling event on Sunday, September 22 to raise money for its community partner Habitat for Humanity Toronto.

The event, known as Stephen's Ride for Humanity, featured more than 175 builders, developers, renovators and industry professionals cycling 50 or 100 kilometers to in support of the Association's 10-year partnership with Habitat for Humanity Toronto. Now in its third year, the Ride pays tribute to the late Stephen Dupuis, who passed away just days before the inaugural event.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be put toward the construction of a Habitat home for its 2014 partner family - the Wedderburns.

"Members of this industry are very passionate about giving back to the community," said BILD President and CEO Bryan Tuckey. "Every day BILD advocates for the construction of safe, affordable communities, which makes our partnership with Habitat such a perfect fit."

Since 2003, BILD member companies have raised more than $620,000.

"I'm very proud of our members' commitment to helping low-income families achieve their dream of homeownership and I feel privileged to be leading this great organization in support of such a great cause," Tuckey added.
