Petition has be signed by 8,185 people in just three weeks
LACHINE, QC, Feb. 5, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The West Island of Montreal Chambre of Commerce (WIMCC) has joined the citizen-led Save the Lachine Hospital of the MUHC Committee and has passed a resolution that objects to the Ministre de la Santé et des Services sociaux's plans to sever the Lachine Hospital from the MUHC.
The resolution states that, "severance of the Lachine Hospital will jeopardize the local business economy, namely companies that are dependent on the Lachine Hospital".
In a letter to the Minister, Éric Léouzon and Joseph Huza, President and Executive Director of the WIMCC, also stated that the expansion and modernization of the Lachine Hospital will have a positive impact on the entire West Island area.
"Many of our members use the hospital and they are very satisfied with the care and services received at the Lachine Hospital," says Léouzon. "The citizens of Lachine and Dorval have already mobilised to save their hospital and as representatives of the business community we give them our full support and are proud to join them in this important cause."
The Committee co-chairs congratulate the Chamber of Commerce for its leadership and courage. "We invite all local community and business groups to join our fight to keep our hospital within the MUHC and to receive the $63 million promised by the government for its modernization project," said Lachine Borough Mayor Claude Dauphin and Dorval Mayor Edgar Rouleau. "We thank everyone who has already signed the petition, but we still need your help. Ask your family, friends and colleagues to sign, and join us as we visit our neighbours."
In just three weeks, a petition launched by the Committee has collected more than 8,185 signatures. It asks the Minister to keep the Lachine Hospital within the MUHC and to invest the $63 million promised for the modernization and expansion of the hospital.
The Committee invites the entire community to sign the petition to save the Lachine Hospital. An electronic version is available on the National Assembly's website at www.assnat.qc.ca.
