TORONTO, Aug. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Ontario's Chief Electoral Officer Greg Essensa confirmed that the writs have been issued for September 6 by-elections in Kitchener-Waterloo and Vaughan.
The local returning offices in the Electoral Districts of Kitchener-Waterloo and Vaughan are now open to the public. Canadian citizens who reside in the Electoral Districts of Kitchener-Waterloo and Vaughan, and will be 18 years of age or older on election day, are eligible to vote.
The nomination period begins Thursday, August 16, 2012 and will conclude Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 2 p.m. (ET).
Electors can vote at an advance poll between August 25 and August 31. Electors can choose to vote in advance using assistive voting technology between August 26 and September 5 at the local returning office.
Electors can also vote by mail or in person at the local returning office by Special Ballot. Electors must apply for their Special Ballot voting kit no later than 6:00 p.m. ET on August 31. Applications are available at wemakevotingeasy.ca, by phone or in person at the returning office.
A blackout on political advertising begins at midnight (ET) on August 8 and ends at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on August 14. A second political advertising blackout begins at midnight (ET) on September 4 and ends at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on September 6. A prohibition on the publication of surveys will also begin at midnight (ET) on September 5, 2012 and ends at 9 p.m. (ET) on September 6.
