TORONTO, March 15, 2016 /CNW/ - Canadians love Candy. ETALK continued its celebration of the Canadian Screen Awards (CSAs) last night with its special edition ETALK AT THE CSAs, dedicated entirely to Sunday night's awards broadcast. Preliminary overnight data from Numeris confirms the episode was watched by 803,000 viewers on CTV, a 31% increase over ETALK's average overnight audience, and was watched by more than 2 million unique viewers overall. ETALK's 7:30 p.m. broadcast attracted 107,000 viewers on CTV Two.
"Last night's tremendous audience confirms Canadian viewers love Canadian stories, and we're proud to tell them," said Morley Nirenberg, Executive Producer, ETALK. "As the Canadian Screen Awards continues to rise in stature, we're delighted to play our part. Congratulations to all involved."
An ultimate celebration of Canadian talent, ETALK AT THE CSAs featured one-on-one interviews from the CSAs red carpet and backstage lounge with Canada's very own Christopher Plummer, Eugene and Dan Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Emma Donoghue, 2016 CSA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Martin Short, 2016 CSA Earle Grey Award recipient Wendy Crewson, Ari Millen, Jay Baruchel, Best Supporting Actor winner Nick Serino, Brent Butt, and Best Actor winner Jacob Tremblay following his big homecoming and CSA win, and more. ETALK also surprised aspiring actress Leanna Shoniker with an opportunity to meet Toronto Mayor John Tory at the CSAs. Plus, ETALK's Danielle Graham and Lainey Lui went head-to-head in a CSA edition fashion face-off; while Jessi Cruickshank broke down all things trending from the big show.
Since the 2016 Canadian Screen Award nominations were announced on Jan. 19, CTV's ETALK has been championing this year's nominees of film and television – showcasing their uniquely Canadian stories leading up to Canadian Screen Week and Sunday's broadcast gala. ETALK was front and centre at both industry night galas as the official Red Carpet sponsor, while ETALK's Liz Trinnear also hosted Thursday's #AcademySocial event, which was co-hosted by Much Digital Studios creator Jus Reign.
Continuing to build and support Canada's star system and its budding stars, ETALK shined the spotlight on Canadian success stories including Canadian Screen Award winners and nominees SCHITT'S CREEK, THE BOOK OF NEGROES, MR. D, DEGRASSI, ROOKIE BLUE, 19-2, ORPHAN BLACK, CORNER GAS: THE MOVIE, CANADA'S SMARTEST PERSON, Sleeping Giant, and Room, among others.
