CAA helping build scenic & safe cycling routes
NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ON, July 14, 2012 /CNW/ - CAA is excited to introduce Ontario's 1.2 million cyclists to undiscovered bike paths across the province.
In partnership with the Waterfront Regeneration Trust, CAA will be highlighting over 700 scenic kilometers of signed cycle routes during the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure (GWTA). The ride begins in Niagara-on-the-Lake and ends just outside the Quebec border in Riviere Beaudette.
"We are not only highlighting hundreds of kilometers of beautiful cycling paths in Ontario, we are also further strengthening relationships between CAA and local communities to extend cycling paths for all cyclists," says Nick Parks, President & CEO of CAA SCO on behalf of all CAA Ontario clubs.
During the eight-day GWTA ride along the scenic shores of Lake Ontario, CAA's Bike Assist will be accompanying riders to ensure any bike related issues — like flat tires or broken chains — are fixed on the spot.
"The Waterfront Trail is 20 years old this year and we've been leading the GWTA for five years as our way to introduce Ontarians to this incredible amenity and the communities it connects. Thanks to CAA's involvement, the Waterfront Trail is becoming a well-used tourism route," says Marlaine Koehler, Executive Director, Waterfront Regeneration Trust.
Before any cycling adventure, CAA reminds cyclists that a properly maintained bicycle is paramount for a safe journey:
- Cyclists under the age of 18 are required to wear a helmet
- A white light should be mounted at front of bike, and a red reflector light should be mounted at back
- Ensure your bike has a bell or horn
- Plan your route to get where you are going safer
