CAA SCO hits the fairways for SickKids
THORNHILL, ON, Oct 1 /CNW/ - CAA South Central Ontario's charity golf tournament may have been low on birdies, but it did drive in the dollars to support the Hospital for Sick Children.
The second annual event took place Tuesday Sept. 21 raising close to $72,000 in charitable funds for SickKids' Centre for Brain and Behaviour.
The tournament marks the second time Angus Glen Golf Club has hosted the event which featured not only an incredible day of golf for sponsors and honoured guests, but a raffle, a silent auction and a speech by one very special young patient, Sam Ordowski, who shared how SickKids helped him recover from a life-threatening brain trauma in July of 2010.
"It was a great event, but without question, the highlight of the day was Sam's speech. He showed courage and grace by sharing his story with us," said Nick Parks, President and CEO, CAA SCO.
All of the corporate sponsors, including Petro Canada and Eclipse Technology Solutions, were instrumental in helping CAA SCO surpass its expectations and raise even more for SickKids than last year.
"SickKids relies heavily on donations in order to operate day-to-day and to continue to grow. Without CAA and the sponsors that joined them to make this event such a success, we wouldn't have nearly as many stories like Sam's to share," said J.P. McMillan, Director of the SickKids Foundation.
The Centre for Brain and Behaviour, established in 1998, has developed into one of the strongest programs in the hospital's Research Institute.
SickKids is one of the many charities CAA SCO supports in giving back to local communities.
